It's very simple: no hops, no beer,"
says Edwin Zuidema, Global
Category Director Raw Materials for
HEINEKEN Global Procurement. "If we
can't build a sustainable hop supply, then
we can't produce and sell our beer."
With issues such as population
growth, climate change and food and
water scarcity looming large, in 2010
HEINEKEN launched its long-term,
integrated approach to sustainability.
It is aimed at mitigating the impact
of these global challenges while
maximising the economic and social
opportunities for stakeholders along
the supply chain. Within this approach,
called Brewing a Better Future, the
sustainable sourcing pillar covers the
sustainable production of raw materials,
as well as the Supplier Code and local
sourcing strategy.
