Challenge for All
Although changing business to be
more sustainable takes time, effort
and resource, it's something HEINEKEN
believes we can all be more conscious of.
"We all have to think about what we're
doing, how we're doing it and if we can do
it more efficiently," says Peter.

"Sustainability is a business imperative for
HEINEKEN. It supports our growth and
allows us to benefit society. Through our
innovative sustainability projects we have
the opportunity to inspire others - the
more we can influence, the better."
HEINEKEN operating company Zagorka opened a new,
environmentally advanced warehouse in 2013 at the Zagorka
Brewery. The warehouse took almost two years to complete, covering
an area of 3,000 square metres.
Improved Insulation
A number of insulation design
improvements, including for walls
and warehouse floors, help reduce
energy consumption.

Building Management System
The warehouse is equipped with a
Building Management System which
automatically controls a number of
building systems, including lighting,
ventilation and fire alarms.
This allows energy consumption to
be minimised while still providing
optimal working conditions for
people using the facility.
Lighting
There are no light switches in the
Zagorka warehouse. Lighting
is automatically controlled by
motion and light intensity sensors.
Additionally, all sources of artificial
light use LED technology.
Natural Cooling
At night, special skylights allow cold
air from outside into the building for
natural cooling.
Rainwater Recycling
An integrated system collects and
recycles rainwater, for use in the
office restrooms and for sanitation of
the storage area.
Green Wall
A green wall of privet has been
planted around the warehouse to
capture dust, improving efficiency.
