Are you working alone to meet
your goals?
We target continuous improvements
throughout the entire value chain, from
barley to bar. In a great many instances
this involves working with partners to
drive change. As an example, we play
a highly active role in the Sustainable
Agriculture Initiative (SAI), an industry
platform that addresses all aspects of
sustainable agriculture from irrigation to
biodiversity. SAI's principles and practices
are a key part of our agriculture and
sourcing strategy.
Collaboration is also becoming an
increasingly important factor in the scope
and effectiveness of our sustainability
activities. In recognition of this, we
have launched a number of innovation
contests, which last year focused
particularly on packaging. By combining
HEINEKEN's expertise and scale with the
creativity of our employees, consumers
and suppliers, we believe we can generate
exciting ideas and ultimately develop
innovative solutions to specific needs in
our value chain.
As an alcohol producer, advocating
responsible consumption will always be
a high priority. Last year, we significantly
advanced our commitments in this
area when we joined 11 other global
alcohol businesses to announce a series
of commitments that will support a
reduction in harmful drinking. We will
implement these actions throughout
HEINEKEN over the coming five years.
How will overall progress be
measured?
We will continue to monitor and measure
progress on a quarterly basis through
our online reporting tool Green Gauge,
a more detailed version of which was
rolled out in 2012. We also publish our
performance annually in our global and
local sustainability reports.
We have spent the last three years laying
the groundwork for Brewing a Better
Future. With our new commitments for
the next three years in place, we are in
a strong position to brew an even better
future.
