market share to 75%, won the
coveted Monde Selection Gold
Quality Award for Star Beer, and
celebrated its 50th anniversary

Opened in 1962, SLBL is
a HEINEKEN majority-
owned brewery located
in Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown.
It is best known for Star, the first beer
'brewed and bottled in Sierra Leone' as
the original label proudly states. Today,
the brewery also produces Heineken®,
Guinness under licence, and Maltina,
a popular non-alcoholic malted drink.
Throughout its history, SLBL's fortunes
have been closely linked to the
fortunes of Sierra Leone, which gained
