Heineken's relationship with Africa goes back a long way, with its first exports
to West Africa dating back to 1900. The first Heineken brewery was opened
in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1923 and significant investment has
continued ever since. Today, operating 44 breweries in 20 African countries,
Heineken is well placed to make the most of the opportunities offered by
Africa's emerging middle class of brand-conscious consumers and a rapidly
growing population which is estimated to reach 1.2 billion by 2020.
