World of Heineken 41 - winter 2009
For the fourth year in a row, Heineken Canada was one of the
sponsors of art event "Nuit Blanche" on October 3 in Toronto.
Around one million people explored the city from dusk till
dawn, enjoying more than 130 art installations created by
some 550 local and international artists. Venues ranged from
art galleries to car parks and bus shelters.
Heineken sponsored 36 provocative and interactive urban
art installations in the southwestern part of the city. Other
Heineken activities included the ln-bar Virtual Graffiti
Experience", where people were able to create their own
art images on a virtual graffiti wall in a bar. Heineken also
organized a behind-the-scenes tour guided by artists and
cultural insiders.
Heineken brands from the Czech Republic, Spain and
the UK were the proud winners in major categories at
this year's World Beer Awards.
Krusovice Cerné of the Czech Republic clinched the
top award in the 'World's Best Dark Lager' category,
while Krusovice Imperial won the 'Highly Commended'
certificate in the 'World's Best Pilsner' category.
Spain's Cruzcampo Gran Reserva earned the 'World's
Best Strong Lager' title, while the UK's Caledonian
Brewery scored with its Great Scot, which won a 'Highly
Commended' mention in the 'World's Best Experimental
Beer' category.
The World Beer Awards, organised by UK magazine
Beers of the World, evaluates some 300 beers from
Europe, US, Australia and Japan over a period of
five months. The judging takes place through three
separate rounds of tasting, ending in late summer.
