that the new beverage is totally free of alcohol. To further define
these perceptions, Bintang Zero is promoted as an alcohol-free
malt beverage, not an alcohol-free beer. Advertising on launch
stressed the key brand message that Bintang Zero is a beverage
providing all the refreshment and sociable enjoyment of the
popular Bintang brand, but with zero percent alcohol. For young
adults, Bintang Zero broadens the range of sociable consumption
occasions to include those where beer would seldom be considered

a 'grown-up' drink; one with a taste and image similar to beer but
with zero percent alcohol. Because the brand is not aimed at
current beer drinkers, the refreshing flavor of this new beverage
was carefully formulated to appeal to the tastes of those who had
never tasted alcoholic beer. It's a little sweeter than Bintang, the
leading lager brand in Indonesia, with a hint of apple flavor, while
still retaining a distinctive malt aftertaste. The new brand carries
the famous Bintang name, so customers had to be made clear
