As from January 1st, 2001, Heineken
Export Group has a new distribution
partner in Portugal. After more than twelve
years, Heineken Export Group decided to
give the distribution agreement a new
impetus by working together with VMPS
(Vidago, Melgapo Pedras Salgadas), an
Operating Company of Jeronimo Martins
Group. The cooperation will focus on the
distribution, sales and marketing of
Heineken, Amstel and Buckler.
In May 2001, the annual presentation of
the African Beer Awards 2000 took place in
Marrakech, Morocco. The General
Managers of the winning Operating
Companies received their awards from
Heineken Executive Board member
Mr S.W.W. Lubsen.
A Special Award went to Sierra Leone
Breweries, for their outstanding
performance to rebuild the brewery after
the civil war that ended last year.

Amstel light, the largest-selling imported
light beer in the United States, has just
released the "Amstel Enlight Survey".
This survey measures differing attitudes
and opinions between Europeans and
Americans, in an attempt to reach a
greater understanding of how young
adults around the world think. The Survey
was executed in four U.S. cities and four
European cities. The idea for the survey
was born out of Amstel light's extensive
and ongoing research into the lifestyle
choices and opinions of the brand's target
consumer (young, sophisticated adults
21-34 years of age). Yuri Schwalbe, Amstel
light's Marketing Director at Heineken USA,
said: "The survey shows that people around
the world are 'Enlightened." and know how
to get enjoyment and satisfaction out of
life, much like Amstel Light consumers."
