How did you join Heineken, and when?
"After studying at the University of Groningen, I went on a student
traineeship for Heineken in Democratic Republic of Congo (former
Zaïre). After I'd graduated, I had the choice to work for Heineken
or for Unilever. In the end it was the people at Heineken and the
brand that tipped the scales. That initial introduction then became
a traineeship, during which I worked for six months in Democratic
Republic of Congo and Malaysia, then in the Netherlands. During
my subsequent two-year management traineeship I worked in
disciplines such as finance, production and marketing. The working
atmosphere in all the various places I worked in during that time
made me sure that my choice for Heineken was right. Everyone
enjoys working here."
"Heineken was my first employer. I started in September 1984,
as a management trainee. After graduating I first worked as a
trainee in Gabon for Stella Artois. That was before it became part
of Interbrew. Via my two-year management traineeship I got to
know Heineken well. In Den Bosch I learnt how to brew beer,
in other places within the organisation I was able to familiarise
myself with production, commercial and accounting operations,
and also with working abroad. I was sent out to Cameroon for six
months. Lots of things to discover, I enjoyed all of it."
