Six young photographers from Holland,
who form part of the 'Group of Eight',
travelled to all parts of the world at the
beginning of 1997, seeking to capture
typical Heineken Moments.
The Group of Eight was set up by eight recent
photography graduates who regularly join forces
for creative assignments and exhibitions and some
times accept commissions from businesses.
Heineken sent the six photographers 'on expedi
tion' to Hong Kong, South Africa, New York, Puerto
Rico and Moscow to update the selection of photo
graphic images. You can see a cross-section of their
impressions on these pages.
One of the photographers was Martijn Steiner
Lovisa. Together with Ingmar Swalue, he set off for
South Africa and Moscow to make a photo reporta
ge: "We received a lot of support from the distribu
tors and were able to take some great pictures. In
Moscow it was bitterly cold (the photographers
visited the Russian capital in February this year,
ed.) but people still drink their Heineken Beer even
in those temperatures. What we noticed was that
in Moscow the people won't let themselves be pho
tographed all that easily."
Martine Stig, accompanied by Tirtsa Schaap,
journeyed to Hong Kong. She was pleased with the
outcome of the assignment. "Hong Kong is a city
where everything revolves around working hard
and spending money. People there are either too
much in a hurry or perhaps too shy when you ask
them to pose for a photo. But we managed to cap
ture some fascinating street scenes featuring
Heineken Moments."
