Heineken obtains most of its hops
from Germany. The little town of Hal-
lertau is the hop capital of the world.
But Heineken hops are also bought
from sources in Czechoslovakia and in
the U.S. state of Washington, the centre
of the American hop growing industry.
Our specialised buyers make sure
that only the best quality hops are used
for Heineken beers. Those various
types of hops are then mixed together
to form the perfect blend. A blend

The shoots of the hop plant are
tied up and can sometimes
reach a length of six metres.
