This ski season, look for Heineken to
enter the world of ski racing with an
exciting series of amateur events across
the Northeastthe Heineken Challenge
Cup Series. The series is being pro
duced for Van Munching by the United
States Recreational Ski Association.
The Heineken Challenge Cup Series
opened in Belleayre, New York on
December 7, and will visit 14 sites in
seven states before culminating in a
regional final March 14-15. Events will
include Giant Slalom, Slalom, and
Downhill competition.
Watch for Heineken Challenge Cup
Series races at the following locations:
Stratton, VT, Berkshire East, MA, Ski
Windham, NY, Brodie, MA, Mt.
Southington, CT, Maple Ski Valley, VT,
Mt. Snow, VT, Bromley, VT, Sundown,
CT, Sawmill, PA, Ski Liberty, PA, Canaan
Valley, WV, and Wintergreen, VA.
The Northeast has been broken
down into three sections for the Heine

Connecticut, and Southern. The North
ern Series finals are scheduled at Brom

finals at Brodie, March 8; and the
Southern Series finals at Wintergreen,
March 1.
During the season, Heineken will
take full opportunity to make its pres

Northeast. Local distributor activity
should include the scheduling of pro
motions at ski lodges and neighboring
establishments and merchandising with
Heineken POS all over major Eastern ski
areas; all in order to help you sell more
Heineken. After all, the Northeast is
known as "Heineken Country."
For the fourth consecutive year, Heine
ken is the Official Beer of the Eastern
Collegiate Athletic Conference's Holi
day Basketball Festival, slated for
December 26-28 at Madison Square
Garden in New York City.
A tournament rich in tradition, the
ECAC Holiday Festival offers metro-
New York fans the chance to see the fin
est teams in the East compete. This
year's tournament line-up includes St.
John's, Iona, James Madison, and St.
Bonaventure. Pictured above is Lou
Carnesecca, the first winner of the
Heineken Achievement Award for out
standing contributions to collegiate bas
ketball. Lou, shown here at a recent pre
season practice session at Madison
Square Garden, is flanked by Doug
Brodman, VMCO special projects man
ager, and Philip Van Munching, VMCO
special projects representative.
More than ever before, Heineken
will have a major presence in college
basketball this year. Heineken adver
tisements will receive prime placement
in the Big East Yearbook, sold on news
stands in every Big East city as well as at
Madison Square Garden, and the Big
East Program, available at the Garden
during all regular season games, the
Eastern Championships, and the
National Invitational Tournament.
As part of its ongoing commitment to
the sport of professional tennis, Amstel
Light will be the Official Beer of the
1986 Virginia Slims Championship,
held March 17-23 at New York City's
Madison Square Garden.
The richest and best attended wom
en's event in the world, the 1986 Vir
ginia Slims Championship is the culmi
nation of the 1985 Virginia Slims circuit.
What could be more fitting than the
combination of the very best imported
light beer and the world's top women's
tennis playersplayers like defending
champion Martina Navratilova, Chris
Evert Lloyd, and Hana Mandlikova?
For Amstel Light, already a fixture at
major tournaments across the U.S.,
1986 will mark the first year as Official
Beer Sponsor of the highly prestigious
Virginia Slims Championship.
The Grizzly Bear can be utilized at spe
