NEW HEINEKEN BREWERY OPENS IN THE NETHERLANDS
A new Heineken brewery has re
cently begun brewing cycles in Zoeter-
woude, The Netherlands. The huge
new Heineken brewery is situated on
over 300 acres between Amsterdam and
Rotterdam, not far from the old uni
versity city of Leyden. Current brew
ing capacity is over a million and a
half hectolitres of Heineken Holland
Beer, but expansion of the brewery
will continue even while Heineken is
now being brewed. Eventually the
brewery will be capable of producing
ten million hectolitres a year. The ex
tensions will be completed in 10 stages.
The site of the new Heineken brew
ery was once just meadowland with an
old windmill, and a railway line whose
track disappeared into the horizon.
The old windmill remains, called the
"Barre Mill", and the brewery grounds
are landscaped to provide the site with
a park-like atmosphere. The picture
below is an architects model of the
completed brewery, and the "Barre
Mill" can be seen at the bottom center
of the photo.
The tremendous sales increases of
Heineken Holland Beer in the United
States and the rest of the world are
being carefully considered in the con
stant brewery planning for the future.
