Milton S. Kronheim Co., Inc. Heineken's Distributor of the Month Washington, D.C. and Maryland Shown above, left to right, are Messrs. Milton S. Kronheim and Bernard "Doc" Cohen, partners in the Kronheim Organization serving as exclusive Heineken's distributor throughout the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland. These two gentlemen have developed one of the leading beer and alcoholic beverage distributorship in the country. Their phenomenal growth since Repeal is indicative of their successful handling of the brands that they represent. Just as surely as the number one business of Washington, D. C. is to serve as the capital of our country and the focus of attention from other coun tries of the civilized world, so the num ber one imported beer sold in Wash ington is Heineken's enjoyed by government officials, diplomats, resi dents and visitors alike. This widespread appreciation, which has placed Heineken's in the enviable position of being the largest selling im ported beer in the Nation's Capital is due, in large part, to the efforts of Milton S. Kronheim Co., Inc., Heine- ken distributors, not only in Washing ton but in the State of Maryland. The Kronheim Organization was established in the District of Columbia after the repeal of prohibition. Its as sociation with Heineken's as an ex clusive distributor, began in the late 1930's. Since that date, the Kronheim Co., Heineken's and the other national ly advertised beers and liquors that it carries have enjoyed mutual growth reflecting this outstanding organization as moulded by its founders, Messrs. Milton S. Kronheim and Bernard 'Doc' Cohen. The Kronheim company, through its sales and sales promotion display de partments, makes a continuing and special effort to promote the sale of Heineken's. Package stores are pro vided with window, counter, interior and other point of sale material by the sales promotion display department on orders from the sales department, while salesmen themselves carry menu cards, table tents and such promotional ma terial to on-sale outlets. Numerous contests encourage the more than 50 salesmen in Washington and Maryland to use this promotional material most effectively so that their sales of Heineken's are expanded and they may hope to receive the substan tial bonuses provided. Established on repeal February 1, 1933 in Washington the House of Kronheim has been twice forced to move in order to accommodate its in creased business. The present offices and warehouse, located at 2900 V St. N.E., in Washington, cover 55,000 square feet and were built and oc cupied in 1954. In 1951 Kronheim's extended its ac tivities into the adjoining State of Maryland with headquarters at 201 North Franklintown Road in the city of Baltimore. Again, expanding busi ness has made it necessary to increase plant and office space and The Kron heim Company of Maryland is prepar ing to break ground for a more ade quate building covering 50,000 square feet, expected to be ready for occu pancy in 1961. Although the present company dates only to repeal, Milton S. Kronheim, a native Washingtonian and son of a tavern owner in the city, himself en tered the beverage business in 1903, continuing successfully until the era of prohibition, when he became one of the area's best known bail bondsmen. It was during this period that he became acquainted with the pharma cist-proprietor of a local drugstore, Doc Cohen, and admiring the manner in which he conducted his business, sug gested to him the idea of joining forces in the beverage business in the event of repeal. The suggestion was agreed to and the partners have proceeded suc cessfully together since that time.
