My Recent Visit to Europe Rather unexpectedly, I flew to Europe in September for discussions and consultations with the staff at the main office in Amsterdam and the other departments at the Export Brewery in Rotterdam. This had something to do with the vastly in creased volume of shipments as well as the Brewery's own problems in keeping up with all other export mar kets throughout the world, in addi tion to shipments to the United States. As usual, in the most cordial at mosphere, these discussions took place in an efficient, businesslike manner and full and complete understanding was reached on all matters. Although personally acqirainted with every department head handling our export business, it seems more obvious all the time that personal dis cussions, clarifications and explana tions pertaining to the preparation, packing and shipments are still of great importance and cannot always be done by correspondence or even overseas telephone calls. The willing ness by everyone in Holland to try and understand our business problems and the eagerness to co-operate with us contributes so much to the success of our efforts. My visit coincided further with the official dedication of Cellar No. 51, a recently completed new lager cellar in one of the new buildings erected at the Export Brewery's site in Rotter dam. This lager cellar, for exclusive use of Heineken's U. S. shipments, has 32 glass-lined lager storage tanks, each with a capacity of about 13,000 liters, giving a total capacity of approxi mately 52,000 cases. This is in addi tion to the regular facilities of the Export Brewery for exports to the United States and other markets. On this occasion, a special plaque flanked by American and Dutch flags was unveiled commemorating the occasion and giving the purpose of this cellar. We are quite sure that every foreign visitor to the Brewery will be guided past our Cellar No. 51. I also visited Messrs. Whitbread in London as well as A. B. Grant Co.
