Miss Goddard raved about the ship, its accommodations and the marvelous food. She admired the Holland Gin glasses with the gold rims but admitted that one drink of that a day was enough! She further ad mitted that she is very fond of cold Heineken's Holland Beer but felt most unhappy about the only disappointment on the boat, i.e., for three long days, there was not one glass of Heineken's on the entire shipcompletely sold out! Paulette thought this a darn shame (can you imagine how we felt?). Captain Verhoog, in order to appease her, invited her, as a special treat, to visit the bridge and admire the fantastic view, something only granted to a very select few passengers. Continued from Page 3) that the people in Western Europe have resigned themselves to the fact that if it should come, well let it and there is nothing one can do about it. This does not mean that they do not highly appreciate the aid and support of the American people. It must be realized, however, that all these coun tries have grave economic problems and that it is sometimes impossible to make available more money for the defense efforts through taxation or otherwise unless the economic struc ture is completely ruptured. Outward ly, there is little or no talk about war. There is a universal and intense dislike for the Communists and what they stand for but they feel that the worst is over already since if the Rus sians had wanted to start a war, they would have done so last year and now that Western Europe is getting stronger all the time and American production is being geared up contin uously, we should discharge such fears and instead, keep on working very hard. In Great Britain I am afraid the expectations of the new government under Mr. Churchill have not been fully realized and the policies as put into effect by the new regime are not fully appreciated. However, the na ture of the English people is such that they will continue to strive to wards their own improvement and that with the help of others, they some day will find themselves again in a better situation. In commemoration of my Twen tieth Anniversary in America for H.B.M., I was tendered a very lovely dinner with some of the officials and other friends in Rotterdam. I was given a beautiful Delft plate with special inscription which I prize very highly and now decorates the wall in my office. Finally, the day of return arrived and a fast plane brought me safely back to New York where I required several days of rest to recuperate from all the emotions and festivities of my 1952 pilgrimage. Before I left Hol land, I made the promise to repeat the trip once a year. I feel not only for our association with Heineken's is this most important but also for our future planning and expansion of agencies. So now we are back in harness once again, full of enthusiasm, with a feel ing of thankfulness for being so close ly associated with the great Heineken's family and I sincerely hope that my experiences which I have tried to de scribe herewith will be a stimulation to all of us to give that extra special additional effort towards selling a few more cases of Heineken's.
