Industrial Interests Abroad
The range of our industrial interests abroad has been substantially extended by the
merger between Heineken and Amstel.
EUROPE
- Mouterij Albert N.V., of Wijnegem, Belgium, has again operated quite satis
factorily this year.
As a result of competition in the Italian market and the bad weather conditions,
the sales for 1968 of Mobiliare Industriale Cisalpina S.p.A., of Milan, have not
increased.
- Competition in the Spanish beer market is such that the profit potential of
Companla Hispano-IIolandesa de Cervezas S.A., of Burgos, was considered
too small to justify continuation of the business. It was therefore sold to a
Spanish brewery group.
- With regard to the Heineken beer brewed under licence at Luton, England, by
Whitbread Co. Ltd., good expectations for the future would appear to be
justified, in view of the very successful introduction.
Athenian Brewery S.A., of Athens, succeeded in increasing its market share.
Competition has intensified as a result.
MIDDLE EAST
- Agreement with the Egyptian authorities regarding our interests there was still
not reached in the year under review.
- The information now available indicates that the sales of Jordan Brewery Co.
Ltd., of Amman, for the current financial year will amply exceed those of the
previous year.
