I Malting, brewing and the production of soft drinks all exert an influence on the envi ronment: We make use of natural resources, cause emissions to the air and to water and produce solid wastes. Heineken has drawn up a detailed inventory of the most important environmental factors involved in the production processes. These analy ses have been used to prepare a list of EPIs (Environmental Performance Indicators) for use by the European operating companies. In addition to the malting and brewing processes and the production of soft drinks other activities in the value chain (including raw materials, distribution) also exert an influence on the environment. As stated earlier, Heineken's Company Environmental Policy Statement commits the Company to the implementation of feasible and worthwhile improvements to other links in the supply chain.
