On the same day that Mr. Samaranch, President of the In
ternational Olympic Committee, announced that the 1994
Winter Olympics would be held in Lillehammer in Norway,
two former champions were there to share memories of past
Olympic successes. They were the Dutch crack speed skaters
Ard Schenk and Kees Verkerk, present in Lillehammer to at
tend the official opening of one of Norway's first Heineken
draught beer outlets. The bar was set up by Ringnes, Heine-
ken's licensing partner in Norway.

The Dreher brewery in Massafra (Southern Italy) passed
the milestone of 25 years of uninterrupted activity last year.
At the same time a whole crowd of employees also cele

The official part of the celebration in the bottles warehouse attracted many well-wishers.
Since the beginning of this year
Amstel beer has no longer been
imported from Holland to the
French island of La Réunion but -
following some technical modifi
cations in the brewery - is now
being brewed locally. Amstel for
both the catering trade and for
home consumption is now avail
able in a six-pack of 33-cl bottles.
To mark the change-over to
local production a new Amstel ad
vertising campaign has been de
vised, as the above photo shows.
Brasserie de Bourbon currently
brews Bière Bourbon, Amstel and
(under license) Guinness. The
brewery also imports Buckler.

Massafra currently employs
more than 280 people and last year
they together achieved an output
of more than 940.000 hectolitres.
The brewery produces Dreher beer
and Heineken lager, packed in
non-returnables, cans and kegs.
The Massafra brewery is the sec
ond biggest unit in the Dreher
group.
The past two years have seen a
bustle of activity on the brewery
site. Projects completed were a
brand-new electronic distribution
system as well as a new bottling
line for both one-way and returna
ble bottles.
Plant manager A. Marra hands out the 25-year service certificate to the
first employee registered in 1963, Mr. A. Martongelli.
The brewery's silver jubilee was
celebrated with a big party in the
bottles warehouse of the brewery.
During the celebrations Mr. A.
Marra, plant manager of the Mas
safra brewery, handed out certifi
cates to sixty employees. Most of
these employees had started work
ing at an early age for the firm of
Birra Dreher S.p.A. in 1963.
The official ceremony was at
tended by a number of Mr. Marra's
predecessors, including the first
director of the brewery in Mas
safra, Mr. C. Ferraris. Our other
Italian breweries were also rep
resented by Messrs. P. Reghin
(plant manager Popoli), T. Man-
cosu (plant manager Pedavena), P.
Cavagnera (director of production,
engineering and technology) and
L. Mengoli (production director).
The sixty long-serving employ
ees were treated to a festive meal
at a local hotel. The entire work
force joined in the celebrations
during an open day when the brew
ery was visited by their families,
friends and acquaintances. The
open day ended with an outdoor
