Multiple Benefits on Tap CUSTOMER FOCUS HEIN EKEN UK has introduced a range of innovative draught dispense systems to suit every customer. With SmartDispense, outlets can reduce costs, improve beer quality and benefit the environment. As the roll-out continues, customers are singing its praises. The Science Bit Motivated by the research findings, HEINEKEN UK established a team, including external cooling and SmartDispense Beer is chilled as it leaves the keg, reducing cellar cooling costs and improving quality n the UK, enjoying a draught beer is a cultural institution. One tradition that needed updating, though, was the old- fashioned equipment used to store and serve the beer. "Historically, UK draught systems worked on a generic 'must buy, must sell' basis," says Simon Gray, Draught Dispense Development Coordinator, HEINEKEN UK. "This meant a single shared system, from which the beer lines of all brewers came." "We conducted in-depth research and concluded that technical development and innovation was required to improve the quality of the consumer draught drink experience while reducing operational wastage. Not only that, but standard systems were now inefficient in terms of cost and environmental impact. It was time for a change." insulation experts, to develop an innovative new draught solution. The result, SmartDispense, is a self- contained system used uniquely for HEINEKEN brands. It offers a winning combination of quality beer, reduced operating costs, less wastage and reassurance for operators. SmartDispense delivers improved beer quality by keeping the beer cold and away from light. "Traditional UK systems have bare beer lines running from cellars cooled to 12°C," says Simon. "SmartDispense uses hydrocarbon coolers to cool the beer towards 0°C and consistently gives 3°C in glass, a temperature preferred by consumers. The system is also extremely well insulated, meaning cooling is more efficient. The first time the beer sees light after being put in the keg at the brewery is when it reaches the glass. This insulation works in balance with the cooling to produce a strong environmental result." Reducing the need for whole cellar cooling in smaller volume outlets Edition 2 201A World of HEINEKEN 19
