Presented in 2008 by the Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, prizes are awarded every other year to five internationally acclaimed scientists and one highly talented Dutch artist. The scientific prizes cover the fields of history, medicine, environmental and cognitive science, as well as biochemistry and biophysics. To give talent extra encouragement, as from this year, five young scientists will receive the Fleineken Young Scientists Award. These are presented for their outstanding scientific or scholarly work at a Dutch research centre, which sets an example for other young researchers. The scientists are all active in the same fields of science as the laureates of the Dr FI.P. Fleineken and the Dr A.FH.
