World of Heineken 42 - summer 2010 OZONE FRIENDLY For domestic fridges, the use of environmentally friendly hydrocarbons in the cooling gas has been standard in many parts of the world for a number of years. In the industrial sector, cooling equipment is still available with old-style cooling gas. Flowever, Fleineken's purchasing guidelines will ensure that, where legally possible, only cooling equipment with hydrocarbon cooling liquid is bought. This also increases energy efficiency. The type and level of insulation is also now a consideration in our purchasing guidelines. This includes the use of environmentally friendly foam, increased levels of insulation and, where possible, the switch from glass to solid doors with a higher insulation rating. DRAUGHT TOO! In 2011, we will also begin to roll out more efficient draught cooling equipment. As a market leader in draught beer, we will be able to stimulate and challenge suppliers to develop more efficient technologies for this type of equipment - leading to even more improvements in the long term. This will include draught beer coolers, pythons, columns and lighting. Overall, we aim to be at least 50% more efficient in cooling per device by 2020 than we are today, a significant step towards Brewing a Better Future for our business and our environment. 27
