Volga Brewery triples
brewing capacity
World of Heineken 38 - summer 2008
Heineken Russia has this year finished a major expansion
of its Volga brewery in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, almost
tripling the facility's annual production capacity to 2.2 million
hectolitres. The project's integration was completed well
ahead of schedule, a feat made all the more impressive by
the fact that production continued during construction.
"We intend to further increase the annual production volume
of the Volga Brewery from the current 2.2 to 5.2 million
hectoliters in 2009," says Roland Pirmez, Heineken Russia's
Managing Director. "This massive expansion project will give
Heineken an even stronger foothold in the rapidly growing
Russian market."
More than €60 million was invested in the expansion of
Heineken's main brewery in the Volga region during the first
stage of reconstruction between 2005 and 2007. A further
170 million is to be spent on improving the brewery over
the next two years.

Nigerian Breweries, one of Heineken's leading
operations in Africa, was this year a lead sponsor of an
international art competition called "The Unbreakable
Nigerian Spirit", in collaboration with the African
Artists' Foundation (AAF).
The ten winners of the contest were selected at the
end of February. Their best works will be exhibited in
two major cities in Nigeria as well as in Amsterdam,
showcasing their talents to both local and international
connoisseurs of art. The exhibits will visit Amsterdam
between June 26 and July 27.
"Nigerian Breweries has a proud history of supporting
community programmes that enrich the quality of life
for the Nigerian public," says Vusuf Ageni, Corporate
Relations Manager at Nigerian Breweries. "Our
corporate social responsibility policy now includes
art development as a significant priority. Our support
of this contemporary art competition and exhibition
demonstrates this commitment in a high profile
manner."
"This is a great example of how two organisations can
work together to achieve a common goal," says Azu
Nwagbogu, Chairman of the AAF. "It combines our
expertise as art promoters and curators, with Nigerian
Breweries' commitment to showcasing the best of
Nigeria to Nigerians and the world at large."
