T'he Portuguese capital of Lisbon is famous the world over for its narrow cobbled streets, its
colourful buildings and a 130 year old metropolitan tram system. The city is one of Europe's most
popular tourism hotspots. Nestling among seven hills and looking over the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon
is the continent's westernmost capital and its history dates back to the Roman Empire. World of
Heineken took a trip down south to discover some of the city's trendiest pubs, clubs and restaurants.
Lux

If you haven't been to Lux, you haven't really been to Lisbon.
Sparsely furnished with original Studio 54 popart tables and
chairs, Lux is decorated with Andy Warhol factory cartoons
and fitted with colossal mirrored walls. The bar was designed
by the world renowned architect team of Margarida Gracio
Nunes and Fernando Sanchez Salvador and features a stylish
staircase reminiscent of New York's Guggenheim museum
that leads to the club's basement.

Stepping into Estado, one of the glossiest outlets in Lisbon,
is like taking a trip back to the 1970s. Yet the use of metal,
glass and dark wood creates a distinctive balance, toning
down the psychedelic colours. This balance is reflected in
Estado's clientele, an eclectic mix of models, actors, fashion
designers and soap stars. Stylishly inlaid with Paco bottles
and Heineken keg cans, the first floor bar at the Estado serves
some of the best sushi in town.
Bar Do Rio

Encouraged by the subtle branding at this trend-setting
bar, more and more visitors are associating Heineken with
a sophisticated lifestyle. Like most clubs in the Portuguese
capital, Bar do Rio features a different clientele and theme
every night of the week. Friday is drum and bass night,
Saturday's are techno for 20-somethings. On Sunday you can
enjoy a brunch and lounge until the early hours of Monday
morning. The club changes its interior décor dramatically
each year, which keeps the bar's concept contemporary
and dynamic. A permanent fixture at the Bar do Rio is an
impressive stain glass window depicting the history of Lisbon.
Located in the city's secluded port district, the Rio is perfectly
suited for the in-crowd.
Blues Café

One of the most spectacular concept bars in the Portugese
capital, the Blues Café décor is a combination of New Orleans,
Napoléon 111 and Interview with a Vampire. Burgundy red
velvet, open fireplaces and heavy 19th Century armchairs
create a distinctly baroque atmosphere of comfort and
decadence reminiscent of the mysterious excesses of a
bygone era. The Blues Café offers the perfect view of the
Atlantic Ocean. The Blues Café has something for everyone
on the menu, from breakfast to dinner, or a simple snack. And
don't forget to try the specialty of the house, Voodoo Chicken.
