Summer 2006 The bridge crossing the canal in front of the former Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam has been officially named Freddy Heineken Brug, or the "Freddy Heineken Bridge." Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken, the daughter of Heineken's most famous Chairman, the late Alfred H. "Freddy" Heineken, and Jean-Frangois van Boxmeer, the company's CEO, were both present at the naming ceremony. Most of Amsterdam's bridges are simply numbered, and the few that do have names received them when they were first built. Freddy Heineken Bridge is the very first numbered bridge to have been given a name instead of a number. With its new historic title, the bridge—formerly known simply as bridge number 84—is set to become a renowned landmark in the Dutch capital city. On the first weekend in June, Heineken kicked off the Asian summer by inviting more than 65,000 jazz fans to the sunny beaches of Thailand for the Hua Hin Jazz Festival 2006. Set against the beautiful backdrop of one of the country's premier beach resorts, the Hua Hin Jazz Festival showcased a variety of world-class jazz performers from Thailand and around the globe, including the Ben Besiakov Trio, Ibrahim Electric, Mikkel Nordso Band and Malene Mortensen. "Jazz is viewed by Thais as a modern and contemporary style of music, values we are eager to link to the Heineken brand."
