NEW BREWERY IN SEVILLE
FULLY OPERATIONAL IN 2008
NOVEMBER 2004
On the outskirts of Seville in Spain a brand new brewery will
become operational in 2008. Because expansion of the current
brewery is not possible Heineken Espana has decided to move
out of the one hundred year old brewery premises in the city
centre. The new brewery will have a production capacity of more
than four million hectolitres, which can easily be expanded.
The new brewery will not be a turnkey project. The keg filling
lines will be operational in 2006 and the brewery will come fully
on stream two years later. Financing the construction of the new
brewery is partly possible through sale of the current brewery
land, some 17 hectares, in the city centre. Selling the land does
not imply that the old brewery will be demolished. The historical
buildings in the old brewery will continue to serve as the
headquarters of Heineken Espana and will be used as a visitor
and cultural centre by the Cruzcampo Foundation.
Because of the growing beer market and the company's commitment
to improve the quality and efficiency of its processes, Heineken
Espana realised that it needed to expand the capacity of the old
brewery in the city centre, but knew there were no possibilities
for further expansion on that site. After extensive study it was
decided that a new brewery just outside of Seville would be the
best solution. On 71 hectares of land a modern brewery will be
constructed, offering greater efficiency and productivity and
lower production costs. The brewery will produce all brands of
Heineken Espana, but Cruzcampo will be the main brand.
According to Heineken Espana spokesman Julio Cuesta this
innovation is a first for the Spanish brewing industry. There was
positive response from the Seville community when Heineken
Espana presented the news. The fact that the connection
between Seville and the century old brewery and Cruzcampo
brand will remain intact means a lot to the local community.
