DRAUGHT AT HOME Personally I prefer to drink my beer in a bar. Enjoying a superbly dispensed Heineken in pleasant surroundings, together with friends or colleagues, for me that's a moment to cherish. But now there's no longer a need for that moment to be to limited to a draught beer served in a bar. Thanks to the BeerTender I can now serve my friends and family a professionally draught Heineken in my home. At the risk of being accused of arrogance, I believe I can safely say that over the years I have learnt quite a few things about dispenser installations and about how to serve a perfect Heineken Beer. So you can take it from me that the BeerTender is the best there is when it comes to draught dispensers. Innovative, impressively designed and top quality. The BeerTender brings the bar into your own home. But how good the BeerTender may be, you will still not be able to serve a professionally draught beer unless you follow the example of the skilled bartender and observe a few basic rules when preparing to dispense your beer. That starts with the glasses you use. Just like the bartender you must make sure that the glasses you use are clean and grease-free. But you should never, ever do that by washing them in the dishwasher or by using a rinse aid product. The outcome is an oily film on the glass, which causes the beer to lose its head and go flat. You should clean the glasses by rinsing them in lukewarm water, to which you have added a bit of soda. After you've rinsed them, simply leave the glasses to 'air-dry'. Using a tea-towel to dry them is a deadly sin, as grease from your hands could come into contact with the glass via the cloth. And grease, as you know, kills off a fine head of foam. Just before you use the glass, rinse it out under the cold tap. By doing that, you cool down the glass and the moisture left on the inside ensures that you get a firmer head of foam. And if you then also use a plastic skimmer to remove the excess foam, you can be sure that you will be serving your friends a perfect glass of draught Heineken. Hans Schutt
