Uncovering new talent
Last year Heineken Music launched a unique, worldwide dance
event entitled 'Thirst', in which new talent is given the chance to
perform with one of the world's number one DJs, Paul Oakenfold.
Thirst toured eight countries in 2002 and is due to visit another
twenty in 2003.
Thirst is a worldwide dance event headlined by renowned
international DJ Paul Oakenfold. The tournament kicked off in
September 2002 in Ireland, where the first performance in Cork
was a resounding success and strengthened Heineken's conviction
that Thirst is a unique concept which is proving to be a guaranteed
hit. Heineken's choice of Paul Oakenfold, due to his enormous
international reputation in the dance-music world, was again
confirmed when his album "Bunkka" recently won the Best Album
Award at the US Dancemaster Music Awards in Miami.
The main Thirst event, featuring Oakenfold and another inter
nationally renowned DJ - Daniele Davoli, represents the culmination
of the Thirst tour in each country. 'Found@Thirst' is actually the
first stop in each destination. Local bars host DJ competitions,
which offer local talent the chance to show they can "mix it" with
the likes of Oakenfold and Davoli. Winners at each location, who
are voted for by the public, are then rewarded with the chance to
play on the same stage as Oakenfold and Davoli at the main
'Thirst' event. Local radio stations and music industry experts get
involved in all aspects of 'Found@Thirst' to ensure the support of
dance music fans and DJs in each community. Oakenfold also
conducts 'Thirst Sessions' in each location, where the Found@Thirst
finalists have the chance to get music advice from the expert
himself, in a close environment, thus further encouraging the
development of fresh local talent.
Found@Thirst has already produced some success stories.
Irish Found@Thirst finalist MissMotif has recorded a track together
with Davoli, whilst Irish winner Alan Kelly now has a regular gig,
at the Cork venue where the main Thirst event was held. Alan
explains: "It's been an amazing ride all the way since I became
