Label
Affligem is a high quality genuine beer brewed in a traditional
way in Belgium since 1074. The Affligem label has been
revitalized to appeal to today's consumers. With three different
types of specialty beers, the brand is suited to be marketed to
young and sophisticated people who enjoy quality and the right
atmosphere.
Originally brewed by Benedictine monks, Affligem is currently
brewed by family owned brewery De Smedt in the Belgian village
Opwijk. There are three Affligem beers: Affligem Dubbel, Affligem
Tripel and Affligem Blond. They are among the oldest Abbey beers
and are still made with full respect for the traditional techniques
used by the monks and following the original recipe transcribed
by Fra' Tobias. The Benedictine Abbey of Affligem was founded in
1074 in the Belgian town of Affligem. Legend has it that Fra' Tobias
was the first person to write down the formula of this renowned

beer which up to that time had been handed down from generation
to generation by word of mouth.
The Affligem beers are produced using a mixture of amber and
golden malts and a selection of different high quality hops that
give the beer its sharp aroma and its balanced, slightly bitter
aftertaste. Moreover a special yeast is used which, in the three
weeks of fermentation at 15°C needed to produce Affligem,
creates the beer's special floral fragrance. These prestigious beers
are best appreciated when served at a temperature of 8°-10°C.
So as to bring out the flavour and aroma Affligem should be served
in the original goblet-shaped glasses with an abundant head.
The existing label of the brand was tested in France last year and
the outcome showed that the brand was experienced as distant
and dull, the label did not meet quality standards. The Affligem
