THE WORLD OF HEINEKEN
The Heineken Medical Award illustrates the efforts that an
individual or a group of people has made to foster the health of
Heineken employees and their dependants. This year, the
Heineken Medical Award was given to the entire brewery
community of the Brasseries et Limonaderies du Burundi, due to
their leadership in the fight against hiv-aids.
The award is linked to and is given during the Annual Medical
Conference and is only a honorary one. Staff of medical services
of Heineken companies in Africa participate in this conference in
order to refresh and update on new developments and progress
in the field of medicine and health preservation and improvement.
In the selection the jury makes it clear what are the important
aspects of the work of the medical staff.
In 2000, the Heineken Medical Award was presented for the first
time to Damien Biteziminsi. He was awarded for his innovative and
inquisitive approaches to health care and the health of the
workers and their family members. In 2001, the award was given
to the medical team in Pointe Noire, who reconciled quality and
cost control in medical services.
