ST. MAARTEN HEINEKEN REGATTA
FUN FOR EVERYONE
The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta is in its 22nd year and is one
of the premier sailing events in the Caribbean. Renowned sailors
and approximately 250 boats from all parts of the world came
to St. Maarten last March to compete in this technically advanced
regatta. The overall theme is "Serious Fun" because while the
race is serious for the competitors, the on-shore activities make
it fun for everyone.
Heineken has supported the event from day one, but has in recent
years taken sole responsibility of developing the on-shore parties.
With that, Heineken developed a schedule of concerts corresponding
with the racing itinerary. At the end of each day, the boats
stopped at various locations that hosted a night concert full of
regional and worldwide artists. There were five concert events that
crossed both the Dutch and French side of the island. Every event
got bigger and bigger. From lighting effects and stage presence to
the level of talent, it built up with a culminating event on the final
night at the Mega Pier. Reggae legend, Steel Pulse was the
headlining act and played for approximately 8000 people.
With interest in music as a driving platform, Heineken really wanted
