Ladies-in-waiting Beer those who welcomed him was packing operator Stefan Schoemaker (left in the photo on page 13). Looking back on his meeting with Mr Heineken, he recalls that 'it didn't make much of an impression on me at the time. "I'd only joined the company six months before, on leaving school. I didn't know much about Heineken's history then: that came later. My workmates thought I'd have the picture framed and hanging on the wall. That didn't occur to me at the time, but I'm certainly planning to do it now." When two new tank units in 's-Hertogenbosch were opened by Mr Heineken in 2000, the staff marked the occasion by dressing up in medieval costume. When the ladies-in-waiting asked Mr Heineken to join them in the photograph, he gladly accepted (see the picture above). Five of the ladies were asked to sum up their impressions of Mr Heineken: Marjo Kosters: "The Godfather of Heineken" Monique van der Sangen: "Like a father holding his family together" Annemarie van Herpen: "Smart" Berdine van Wanrooij: "A special man and a special event which left a profound impression on me" Sylvia Elands: "It's great how Mr Heineken was able to extend the empire. We can take pride in the fact that you can now order a "Heineken" anywhere in the world!" Jan van den Broek (left in the photo left on page 15) of Heineken Nederlands Beheer, former Chairman of the Central Employees' Council, recalls that he was invited by Head Office to attend the presentation of the staffs gift to Mr Heineken on his retirement as Chairman of the Management Board.
