Innovation and savings
drive new developments
The strangest things can happen.
One moment you're still Area
Export Manager based on the
Canary Islands, the next you're
tackling the question of how know-
how and cash can best be deployed
to benefit the draught beer
segment within Heineken. And yet
for the man in question, Huub
Maas, the change in role is not as
strange as it seems. As a man
trained in the commercial side of
the business, he knows exactly
what makes the draught beer world
tick. Since 1 January this year Huub
Maas, together with three colleagues
including Hans Schutt (see previous
page) has formed the management
team of the new Heineken Draught
Beer Competence Centre.

Draught beer is big business in the
global beer market. Not only for
breweries but definitely also for sup
pliers of dispenser systems and cool
ing equipment. The men in charge of
the Draught Beer Competence Centre
do not yet know exactly how big that
business is. And there are also other
gaps in the information available to
them. In the brewing industry, oddly
enough, concepts like improved effi
ciencies and cost reductions have not
yet penetrated through to the
draught beer sector. Even though
they could deliver many benefits.
