Heineken
The new brewing plant under con
struction by Heineken Breweries on a
site in Zoeterwoude, near The Hague,
Netherlands, will be one of the largest
in the world upon completion. It will
have an annual capacity of eight mil
lion barrels and will cover 192 acres.
Most of the plant is being automated
by the Netherlands subsidiary of
Honeywell. Installation began in July
with a 316 process computer, and the
contract for automation is reported to
run over a million dollars.

Imports of malt beverages showed
an 18% gain from January through
August, 1973 from the comparable
1972 period, according to the National
Association of Alcoholic Beverage Im
porters in Washington, D.C.
The importing "Big Three" held
their previous positions for this eight-
month period. The Netherlands again
was the leader with 7,901,652 gallons,
or a gain of 25 percent over 1972. West
Germany was second with a 17 percent
increase to 6,188,795 gallons, and Can
ada was up by 20 percent for a total of
3,433,337 gallons during the January-
August period this year. The great
majority of the Netherlands figures
represent Heineken, while West Ger
man figures represent a wide variety of
imported German beer brands.
