"The Windmill" Receives Famous "Edgar" Award appy lam if if The Windmill PUBLISHED BY VAN MUNCHING CO., INC., 6 West 48th St., New York 36, N. Y. VOL. XI, No. 4 EDITOR: EDWARD W. RAMM JUNE, 1960 Do Our Die AT THE risk of appearing repetitious, I am happy to tell our readers that at the end of our six month period ending May 31st, total Heineken's sales for so far this year showed 100,000 cases more than during the same period last year. This is quite an accomplishment and, of course, never previously obtained. As a matter of fact, total sales to wholesalers during the month of May reached 123,317 cases. I also know you would be interested in hearing of the tremendous response to our Heineken's advertisements in the Sunday magazine supplements and NEWSWEEK Magazine, in which announcements are made of the offer to sell special Heineken's stem ware glasses. Within two weeks after the first ads ran, we received over 600 orders with jchecks, and since then many more have come in every day. I only hope the glass manufac turer in Holland will be able to keep up our supplies! We are very pleased that there has been such a large consumer reaction to this because we believe there is great value in having so many Heineken's glasses in homes of Heine ken's beer drinkers, as this will be a further stimulant to indulge in drinking Heineken's. Our Washington, D. C. and Maryland wholesalers, Milton S. Kronheim Co., Inc., have been selected as The Distributor of the Month" and I take particular pride in this as both Mr. Kronheim and "Doc" Cohen have been great personal friends of mine for many years. They have done a wonderful job in representing us in the capitol city of the United States. Recently we received the newly revised Heineken's export booklet which is most at tractive. To acquaint you with this interesting booklet, giving additional information which could be used while calling on the retail Heineken's trade, we will soon send a copy to you for your perusal. I sincerely hope your summer season will be blessed with beautiful weather and that you and your family enjoy a pleasant vacation. Cordially yours, Ed Gibbs Publishing Co., publisher of the Ed Gibbs Newsletter, the original newsletter of the beer, wine and liquor industry, congratulates Mr. Leo van Munching on his receipt of the "Edgar" for the most effective house organ by an importer. The awards were presented at a special luncheon given for this occasion on May 24th at the Astor Hotel in New York City. Many other outstanding members of the alcoholic beverage industry were honored including two Heine ken's distributors Milton S. Kronheim Co. in Washington, D. C. for outstanding public relations by a wholesaler in 1959, and Mr. Warren S. Russell, Vice President and Sales Manager of the Milford Co. in Beverly Hills, California, for wholesaler's Sales Manager of the year.
