WELCOME TO NEW FACES WATCH FOR HEINEKEN'S NATIONAL ADVERTISING JULY, AUGUST SEPTEMBER HOLIDAY NEW YORKER NEWSWEEK SPORTS ILLUSTRATED July, Aug., Sept 0Continued from page 3) The next day I went over to Soester- berg, where an American Air Force squadron is stationed on a Dutch air base. Those Dutch are really efficient. They checked my credentials and got me a se curity clearance in about 10 minutes by phone. Then they escorted me around to take pictures of their newest planes to emphasize the importance of their role as a NATO member. Then of course we had to clear through the American embassay. That took all day long and a solid three hours of telephone calls halfway across the country before they got it squared away whether or not I could ask an American wife if she bought her vegetables on the Dutch mar ket and print the answer. Finally, just be fore sunset, some American colonel in the embassy laid his career on the line and gave permission to print a story, even if the wives didn't buy in the commissary. I'd like to write him a thank you note for being so brave But what I really wanted to tell you about was that it will be a little while be fore I get back to France after I left Soesterberg and headed for Paris I found a tulip in bloom. I screeched to a halt, ran over, and picked it. It was beautiful. You can write me c o City Jail, 's Her togenbosch, Holland. I still don't know how they expected me to understand a sign saying "Don't pick the tulips" when it's written in Dutch. Best, Bud A frequent visitor to our officesCol.
