FROM THE DESK OF
JAMES P. CONNELLY
SURVEY recently completed by
the New York Journal Ameri
can revealed a situation in the New
York Beer market which was most
heatening to us. The question asked
of these dealers was "What brands
of beer do you stock in twelve (12)
oz. bottles?" Out of a total of fifty
beers listed in this survey, Heineken's
was nineteenth. Bearing in mind that
Heineken s sells in the retail trade at
a price which is roughly three times
that of the local beers, the conclusion
is obvious. Heineken's has achieved
a standing in the trade which has put
it far above even some of the premi
um and local beers.
From January, 1950 to date, the
New York area shows an increase of
roughly 12% over 1949 and this is
in face of the poor business which
retailers have so consistently com
plained of. Our prospects for the bal
ance of the year are bright. Long
Island has shown the greatest in
crease of all this year and their con
tinuance at their present high level
will insure our lead. A survey of ac
counts in Long Island shows a heart
ening increase in distribution over
last year. This, combined with an
awareness of the distributors' men
of the value of table tents, menu
stickers and signs, accounts for the
increased showing.
Our efforts are never in vain
when we leave a distributor's man,
he is thoroughly convinced of the
basic
result
of
distributing
table
tents and signs. Our business is good,
prospects bright and our cooperation
assured to all our distributors who
have contributed to the success of
Heineken's. the world's finest
ager.
