With the build and deployment of the Digital
Backbone, HEINEKEN creates a future-proof
modular architecture. It will enable new capabilities
to grow the business, drive further productivity and
increase our speed to market. The Digital Backbone
consists of a Digital CORE (a lean ERP system),
surrounded by specific cloud platforms. This
programme started in 2022 and will run at least
until 2028. In 2023 we made 535 deployments
of our future-proof applications, across all our
countries, which constitutes around 22% of our
future architecture. At the same time, we
decommissioned almost 350 older applications.
To become the best-connected brewer, HEINEKEN
is not only digitally transforming the front-end
(our route-to-consumers and analytics) but also
modernising and simplifying the back-end. HEINEKEN
historically has a widely varied technology landscape,
with many local applications.
We continue to step up our capabilities within the
global Digital Technology function. We are building
out our digital hubs in Kraków, Ho Chi Minh City,
Cairo and Johannesburg and have added Bangalore
and Monterrey as new hubs. Key capabilities such as
Cybersecurity, Machine Learning Engineering and
DevOps are being insourced, to accelerate our
digital transformation.
At the same time significant ‘upskilling’ efforts are
taking place across HEINEKEN, focused on Data and
AI, Cybersecurity and data-driven decision-making.
