Sales of Heineken beer in Japanproduced and sold under
licence by Kirin Brewery Co. Ltd., showed in further
increase in a somewhat sluggish Japanese beer market.
In Australia sales of Heineken rose significantly compared
with the previous year. Consequently the leading position
in the import segment was further reinforced.
The still modest exports to the People's Republic of China
showed an upward trend.
The setting-up in the People's Republic of China of
breweries on the basis of joint ventures, which are primarily
aimed at production for the growing local market, is a
matter which requires patience, also as a result of prob
lems regarding foreign currency. Discussions on several
potential projects are taking place with a number of
possible partners.
The discussions on the setting-up of a hop processing
enterprise are taking more time than was foreseen.
