- Martinique
In collaboration with our technical departments preparations are being made to
replace the existing production unit of Brasserie Lorraine S.A., situated in the centre
of Fort-de-France, by a new unit. This new construction project is necessitated by
town planning considerations and lack of capacity.
- Guadeloupe
Our activities relating to S.A. des Grandes Brasseries Antillaises (SAGBA) are solely
confined to the rendering of technical assistance in return for a fixed annual fee.
- Puerto Rico
Cerveceria Corona Inc., of San Juan, produces Malta Amstel under licence. Sales
remained at the same level as those of the previous year.
Surinam
The turnover of Surinaamse Brouwerij N.V., of Paramaribo, exceeded that of the
previous financial year.
The increased proceeds resulting from this made it possible to offset rises in costs.
Further possibilities of expansion depend on the development of the Surinam
economy.
French Guiana
Our connection with Brasserie et Glacière de la Guyane S.A., of Cayenne, is limited
to a minority interest; no technical assistance is provided.
Africa Two developments determine policy with regard to our African interests:
- the strong growth in the sales potential of the breweries
- the fundamental changes in the relationships between Western industry and
Africa.
The increasing prosperity is creating ample possibilities in most of the countries
of Africa for a further expansion of the sales of beer.
In many African countries the number of brewery enterprises is increasing. Easy
conditions of payment in the form of long-term suppliers' credits sometimes lead in
this sphere, too, to new construction which is not economically justified. The
enterprises associated with us are generally managing, however to maintain their
traditionally strong position.
It can be said that the possibilities open to us are plentifulparticularly for the local
