H. R. H. Princess Margriet of the Netherlands unveils plaque Amstel Brewery inaugurated in Canada Heineken was very honoured to have H.R.H. Princess Margriet of the Netherlands unveil a commemorative plaque at the opening ceremony of the Amstel Brewery in Hamilton (Ontario) Canada. As noted in a previous issue of CONTACT, Heineken acquired the existing brewery in Hamilton last year. Soon thereafter the machinery was upgraded, and the capacity was expanded in order to produce Amstel Beer. (In the meantime, the existing facilities were made ready for producing Hamilton Mountain Beer which was already being distributed locally in small amounts.) The official inauguration of the Amstel Brewery followed shortly after the renovation. H.R.H. Princess Margriet was joined at the ceremony by her husband, Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven; Mr. R. van de Vijver, member of the Executive Board of Heineken N.V.; Miss Charlene Heineken, daughter of Mr. A.H. Heineken; and Canadian government officials, including Hamilton's Mayor, Mr. Powell, Dr. Hudecky from the Provincial Governmant, and Mr. Andrews from the Federal Government. Following speeches by Mr. H. Buchbinder, president of Amstel Brewery Canada Ltd. and Mr. Van de Vijver, the 500 guests toured the brewery and enjoyed a buffet lunch in one of the stock rooms, which had been cleared and decorated for the occasion. The inauguration was a resounding success, and so were two separate parties, attended by a total of 600, the next day. Amstel customers enjoyed themselves during the afternoon. In the evening Amstel staff members and their families had their own party in the same hall. For the staff and their families the fun lasted until past midnight. But in spite of the late hour, the employees demonstrated their loyalty to the brewery: they cleared the stock room of all chairs, tables and decorations so that morning procedures could begin as scheduled. Their gesture of devotion is greatly appreciated, and they are wished much success in their new venture. H.R.H. Princess Margriet and Mr. H.
