The bottling hall of a soft drinks factory
at Kigali, in the African Republic of
Rwanda, is one of the most widely
travelled industrial installations in the
world: it makes many thousands of jour
neys to all parts of the globe in a year.
On a Rwanda postage stamp, that is!
It is the bottling hall of an ancillary com
pany of Brasseries Limonaderies du
Rwanda SARL known as Bralirwa
Heineken associate which operates a
brewery at Gisenyi in western Rwanda. It
is probably the only installation of its
kind in the world to be used as a stamp
illustration.
The stamp is one of a series issued as
part of the Rwandi government's sup
porting campaign for a national produc
tion drive in 1975. The colour slide from
which the illustration is reproduced is
the work of Mr. H. Otter, Kigali plant
manager who was invited by the gov
ernment to photograph the subject.
Other pictures used in the series showed
Rwanda's President crop-gathering at
harvest time; a bulldozer in use for road
construction; an aircraft carrying a car
go of vegetables grown in Rwanda;
leather-working in a new tannery. All the
stamps were printed by the Dutch firm
Joh. Enschede of Haarlem near Am
sterdam.
The Republic of Rwanda, independent
since July, 1962, is situated in the heart
of the African continent. It has an area of
26,338 square kilometres and a popu
lation of more than four millions.
occidental.
invité a photographier Ie sujet. D'autres
nouvelle tannerie. Tous les timbres fu-
rent imprimés par la firme hollandaise
Joh. Enschede de Haarlem prés d'Ams-
terdam.
La république du Rwanda, pays indé-
pendant depuis juillet 1962, est située au
coeur du continent africain. II a une su-
perficie de 26.338 km2 et une population
supérieure a 4 millions.
