ment a /'architecture méditerranéenne mo
derne.

1. This picture was taken in the park of the
well-known hotel Chateau Royal", during one
of the sales meetings with the staff of the
Heineken agents for New Caledonia, the
house of Rabot. From left to right, Mr. Dumas,
Commercial Director of Rabot, Mr. Besse,
Sales Representative of Rabot, Mr. Cruel,
Rabot's Commercial Assistant, Mr. Edouard
Rabot and Mr. d'Hollosy, Area Export Man
ager of Heineken Breweries, Holland.
2. One of the Heineken vans of the house
of Rabot on its daily round, here making a
stop at one of the old Melanesian style
houses, more than a century old.
3. Situated on a peninsula, embroidered with
bays and steep hills that seem to carve into
the deep blue waters of the lagoon, Nouméa
is an exquisite capital combining the old
colonial style with modern Mediterranean
architecture.
4. This is the traditional New Caledonian
piroque, fast and easy to handle, which can
be used to cross a sea arm or slide into a
lagoon without touching the dangerous reefs.
5. In order to cope with the demand for
Heineken in New Caledonia, enormous stocks
have to be in reserve. This picture might give
you some impression of how high the cartons
sometimes have to be piled.
6. A continuation of the main island to the
South, the Isle of Pines gives a complete
picture of all the attractions of the South
Pacific. Under the pine trees, which often
reach a height of more than 150 feet, grows
an exuberant vegetation of mauve orchids.
Beautiful beaches of white sand run along
bays towards a lagoon that reflects the tur
quoise, light green and pink of its surround
ings. The Isle of Pines is a favourite spot for
excursions.
7. We took this picture during a dinner-party
on the 12th of July given to honour the group
of Heineken importers in New Caledonia.
