3.9 Environmental reporting
Providing information to interested parties about the results of our efforts is an
integral component of our environmental policy. The biennial Heineken Environment
Report is an important means to this end. In the current phase of development, the
report is focused on environmental performance; however the next report will also
include information on aspects such as safety and health. The procedures and organi
sational structure required for this expansion are currently in preparation. In Section
3.1 of this report it was noted that sustainable growth does not merely possess an eco
nomical dimension, but also includes social and ecological dimensions. In view of the
various facets involved in sustainability we are currently examining the feasibility of
preparing reports focused on sustainability that integrate these different dimensions.
In carrying out these activities we also keeping abreast of developments such as the
Global Reporting Initiative.
In concluding this section we would like to ask you to mail us your questions on,
comments about or suggestions for improvement of our environmental manage
ment. To this end a reply card is attached to this report.
THE GLOBAL REPORTING INITIATIVE
A growing number of multinational
companies will publish environ
mental or sustainability reports
within the next two to five years.
In 2000 the Global Reporting
Initiative (GRI), founded in 1997,
published new guidelines for
sustainability reports. The pres
ence of representatives from a
wide variety of primary interested
parties has led to Heineken's
conviction that this GRI will provide
an important impetus towards the
achievement of this goal.
This Environment Report does not
incorporate all the elements of the
GRI guidelines; the GRI is focused
on sustainability, whereas the em
phasis of this report is placed on
environmental management and
the results it has achieved.
