Until recently the wort was fer
mented and stored in more than
160 small capacity tanks located in
an old-fashioned cellar building,
with no extra cooling facilities.
For several months now fermenta
tion and storage have taken place
in a modem tank yard comprising
fourteen tanks of 1,200 hi capacity
each and built in line with the lat
est ideas in engineering and tech
nology.
The advantages of the new
tanks compared to the old cellar
are obvious. The brewery's capaci
ty has been expanded, product
quality control has been simpli
fied, working conditions have
been greatly improved, energy
savings are being achieved, and
product losses are expected to de
cline.
The project was the responsibil
ity of the project engineer of Multi

Mr. Tanri Abeng, Multi Bin-
tang's President, performed the of
ficial opening ceremony by cutting
a ribbon in the presence of a num
ber of guests from Surabaya and
some members of the Multi Bin
tang management, headed by
brewery manager Mr. Hetarihon.
Mr. Abeng also inscribed his sig
nature on a commemorative
plaque which will be built into a
wall in the tank room. During the
official inauguration Multi Bin-
tang's technical director, B.J. van
de Berg, planted a small tree to
symbolise future growth.

Mr. Heineken has been fascinat
ed by art for his whole life and he
felt that art, and especially paint
ings, fitted in well with the high
quality of our products. So he
asked Pierre Janssen, a well
known Dutch art expert, to make
twelve films about important
painters. The first six episodes
spotlight the painters Vermeer, Van
Gogh, Mondriaan, Van Eyck,
Brueghel and Rembrandt.

The Just Checking film, pro
duced by Van Liempd Filmpro-
dukties, was commissioned by
Heineken. The film is specially in
tended for the many thousands of
tourists who visit one of our brew
eries in the Netherlands each year.
Heineken is depicted in the film in
a humorous way, illustrated
through the adventures of a visit
ing American journalist.
SAM's objects are to provide in
formation about the possible appli
cations of audiovisual aids. Each
year SAM organises a film and
video contest. This year's contest
attracted 135 entries. The jury had
this to say about Just Checking:
"Making a good company film in
volves a great many aspects. By its
nature such a film is pretentious
and prestigious. And it has to live
up to those claims. A hard job in
deed. Van Liempd have done their
work well. Naturally, it is well
filmed, then there is a good story
line presented with pleasant exag
geration and humour."
