INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE
CELEBRATION
fter two years' building work
the new premises of the Albert
Malting Plant at Ruisbroek in
Belgium were opened with a big
celebration. The Heineken brass band
had come down from 's-Hertogenbosch
(Holland) and about 200 guests were
present when Mr. G. Geens, Chairman
of the Flanders Executive, a
government organisation responsible
for a part of Belgiumunveiled a plaque
to loud applause from those present.
After that the guests toured the plant
where they were able to see for
themselves what malt is, how important
it is in brewing, and what is needed to
produce it. The afternoon was
concluded with a reception party in a
The opening ceremony consisted of the unveiling of a copper plaque by Mr. G.
Geens, chairman of the Flanders Executive, a Belgian government body. Looking

beautifully decorated room inside an
empty factory hall.
Mouterij Albert is a wholly-owned
Heineken subsidiary and has been
producing malt for the concern for
years. This used to be done and is still
done today in the maltworks at
Wijnegem, some 20 km away from
Ruisbroek. The capacity in Wij negem is
40,000 tons. That is not enough for
Heineken. Some years ago we were
able to buy the vast malting plant
premises in Ruisbroek, which meant
that ultimately the total production was
more than doubled to 110,000 tons of
malt a year.

The Heineken concern has
grown steadily bigger in
recent years. Thousands of
employees now form part of the
Heineken family. In this magazine,
which will be published quarterly in
four languages, we want to tell you
about interesting things happening
to you and your colleagues in the
Heineken world. There are lots of
things happening that we are
involved in, as our beer is sold in
145 countries. Besides, our concern
is also linked in some way or
another with 70 other breweries
throughout the world.
In addition to beer we also produce
or sell many other drinks, for
instance soft drinks, wines and
spirits. We thought you'd like to
know more about where those
drinks are produced and how they
are sold.
Heineken International Magazine
will probably not take on its final
form until some time during next
year. In the first few issues we shall
have to experiment a little. This is
why we have decided that in the
first year the issues will be mainly
geared to our employees in Europe
A H. Heineken, Chairman,
Executive Board, Heineken N. V.
The articles will be about the work
done by your colleagues for our
brands, what their jobs involve and
who they are. Because, after all, we
are one big team, all working
together towards the same goal.
I would like to recommend this
magazine to you. I hope that you
will spend a few pleasant and also
interesting moments looking
through it and that it will give you a
clear picture of the company you
work with.
A.H. Heineken, Chairman of the
Executive Board of Heineken N. V.
