The Heineken brass band had come down from 's-Hertogenbosch (Holland) and about 200 guests were present when Mr. G. Geens, Chairman of the Flanders Executive, a government organisation responsible for a part of Belgiumunveiled a plaque to loud applause from those present. After that the guests toured the plant where they were able to see for themselves what malt is, how important it is in brewing, and what is needed to produce it. Mouterij Albert is a wholly-owned Heineken subsidiary and has been producing malt for the concern for years. This used to be done and is still done today in the maltworks at Wijnegem, some 20 km away from Ruisbroek. The capacity in Wij negem is 40,000 tons. That is not enough for Heineken. Some years ago we were able to buy the vast malting plant premises in Ruisbroek, which meant that ultimately the total production was more than doubled to 110,000 tons of malt a year. Besides, our concern is also linked in some way or another with 70 other breweries throughout the world. In addition to beer we also produce or sell many other drinks, for instance soft drinks, wines and spirits. We thought you'd like to know more about where those drinks are produced and how they are sold. Heineken International Magazine will probably not take on its final form until some time during next year. In the first few issues we shall have to experiment a little. This is why we have decided that in the first year the issues will be mainly geared to our employees in Europe A H. Heineken, Chairman, Executive Board, Heineken N. V. The articles will be about the work done by your colleagues for our brands, what their jobs involve and who they are. Because, after all, we are one big team, all working together towards the same goal. I would like to recommend this magazine to you.
